We are transitioning from Comirnaty JN.1 to Comirnaty LP.8.1 COVID-19 vaccine in New Zealand.

Current Comirnaty 10mcg JN.1 stock expires on 31 December 2025.

Providers can now place orders for the new Comirnaty 10mcg LP.8.1 vaccine, for use from 1 January 2026. There is no change in vial presentation or pack size.

Providers should continue using the current 10mcg JN.1 vaccine throughout December and should destroy any remaining vials on their final working day of 2025. Instructions will be included with LP.8.1 deliveries.

The last delivery date for new stock this year is 23 December 2025. Deliveries will resume from 7 January 2026.

Please note:

  • For children aged 6 months to 4 years: Please continue to use Comirnaty 3mcg JN.1 vaccine until Comirnaty 3mcg LP.8.1 vaccine becomes available. This transition is planned for February 2026.
  • For adults and children aged 12+ years: Please continue to use Comirnaty 30mcg JN.1 vaccine until Comirnaty 30mcg LP.8.1 vaccine becomes available. This transition is planned for February/March 2026.

Both JN.1 and LP.8.1 options will remain available in the AIR drop-down during the transition period – vaccinators should ensure they take care recording the correct vaccine administered.
