This course supports midwives who choose to expand their practice to provide vaccination care for pēpē and their whānau up to 12 months after birth. It builds on the vaccination knowledge you already have as a midwife and will update and extend your understanding of the National Immunisation Schedule.
The course recognises the integral role midwives play as trusted health professionals for hapū māmā and their whānau. It provides the additional knowledge, skills, and support needed to deliver safe and effective vaccination care within an expanded scope of practice.
To enrol, you must:
At the end of the online course, complete the multiple-choice assessment. There are 10 questions, and you must get 8 correct to pass. You have 20 minutes to complete.
To enhance proficiency in this area of specialist midwifery care, the Midwives immunisation skills log has been created to complement the online learning. This skills log enables midwives to develop, practice, and document the practical skills necessary for expanded vaccination practice. It is recommended that the skills log be completed with guidance from an experienced vaccinator mentor.
Midwives participating in expanded vaccination practice can complete this course alongside the Midwives Immunisation Skills Log as a pathway to demonstrate ongoing competence, support recertification, and provide evidence of continued learning and competence within their professional portfolio.
