Overview

This 2-hour course is designed for health professionals holding a current practicing certificate who would like to be a part of their organisation's vaccinating workforce to administer influenza vaccine to colleagues, improving staff accessto this vaccine.

It will provide the knowledge and skills needed for health professionals to provide high quality, safe and effective delivery of influenza vaccines to their peers during the influenza season.    

Registration requirements

You must:

  • hold a current annual practicing certificate
  • have successfully completed the medication certification process
  • have successfully completed the Patient Safety Training.

Note: If you are already an authorised or pharmacist vaccinator, a doctor or a midwife, you do not need to do this course to administer influenza vaccines.

Assessment

The assessment is in two parts, each a set of five multiple choice questions with 10 minutes per set to complete.

Peer Influenza Vaccinator Standing Order

To administer influenza vaccines as an Influenza Peer Vaccinator, you are required to work under the direction of the linked Standing Order (SO).

Upon successful completion of the course you will be authorised to administer influenza vaccinations under the Health NZ Influenza Standing Order to all people who undertake work for Health NZ including but not limited to employees, contractors, students, interns, volunteers and visiting professionals.

You will be required to liaise with your local occupational health service to follow site-specific processes, including arrangements for vaccine access, supply and clinical documentation.
