Note: From 1 July 2026, fees will apply to some vaccinator training courses, as temporary funding that enabled full fee subsidies from Health New Zealand has ended. Course fees are shown when the course is selected, or you can click here for a table of new course fees, effective from 1 July, and more information. Please note that foundation‑level courses will remain free to support employers and new vaccinators entering the workforce.
This one-hour course covers rabies infection, transmission risks, and the essential principles of PrEP and PEP. It recognises the differences for immunocompromised travellers, and the urgent steps required after potential exposure.
The course highlights intradermal (ID) vaccination as an effective, dose-sparing strategy requiring correct bleb formation and awareness of local reactions. Emphasis is placed on ID administration in PrEP schedules, use of multidose vials, and documentation.
Due to the technique required for intradermal administration, vaccinators may require specific practical on-the-job training to ensure correct technique. Guidelines and support for this are provided in the course.
At the end of the online course, complete the multiple-choice assessment. There are 10 questions, and you must get 8 correct to pass. You have 20 minutes to complete.
