This 16-hour online course equips health professionals who provide clinical assessments for children and young people involved with the Youth Justice System (YJS) in Aotearoa New Zealand, with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and tools. Participants will learn to conduct health assessments for young offenders or those at high risk of offending, focusing on identifying risks and resiliencies to develop effective intervention plans.
The course embraces Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles, emphasising a strengths-based approach. It highlights the importance of family involvement, cultural responsiveness, community engagement, and youth participation in assessments and interventions.
Participants will explore how to support holistic youth development, encouraging growth and positive change while addressing both immediate and long-term health concerns within the YJS context.
