Overview

Before registering, please ensure you and your employer understand the eligibility requirements to progress to VHW stage 2.  

Each course has a specific date and venue for the face-to-face practical workshop – when registering, please choose carefully to ensure you can attend the practical workshop.

The online course will take about four hours to complete. You should complete and pass the online assessment BEFORE attending the two hour face-to-face practical workshop.

Please ensure you and your employer have read the  Vaccinating Health Worker workforce page.

Registration requirements:  

You must be:

  • Employed by an organisation that understands the role of the VHW and the support and supervision required.  
  • Authorised to administer all four VHW Stage 1 vaccines.
  • Able to demonstrate having administered at least 25 vaccines over a minimum of eight weeks within the past six months.
  • Successfully completed the IMAC online Second Checker course.
  • Able to complete the theory component and online assessment before attending the practical workshop.
  • Committed to attending the practical workshop at the venue and on the date booked.

Course content

  • Extending your role as a VHW to work with whānau and tamariki from 5 years  
  • Communication
  • MMR vaccine and vaccination in ages 5 years and over  
  • Influenza vaccine and vaccination in 5 years and over  
  • Comirnaty 10mcg vaccine and vaccination in 5 years and over  
  • Practical aspects of vaccine administration  
  • Preparation of the MMR and Comirnaty 10mcg and 30mcg vaccines
  • Cold chain  

Assessment

At the end of the online course, complete a multiple-choice assessment.  

  • There are 20 questions, and you must get 16 correct to pass.
