Overview

This online course is for kaimahi who support tamariki and rangatahi in community-based Homes, and who may be involved in handling, managing, or giving medication.  

This training supports you to work safely and confidently with medication. Kaimahi must complete medication training before they are approved to handle and administer medication in their Home.

Registration requirements:  ‍

To enrol, you must:

  • Be an Oranga Tamariki kaimahi who work in Homes
  • Kaimahi who work for other organisations, including:
    • Contracted providers
    • Fee-for-service organisations
  • Anyone who has responsibilities involving medication, such as:
    • storing or transporting medication  
    • checking or preparing medication  
    • administering (giving) medication  
    • supporting a tamaiti or rangatahi to take their own medication  
    • recording or monitoring medication use.
  • Acknowledge that any additional requirements (e.g. workplace sign-off or practical assessment) are determined by your employer or care home, not by this course

  • Introduction to medication management
  • Principles of safe medication use
  • Understanding the medication
  • Storing and handling medicines
  • Administering medications safely

Assessment

At the end of the online course, complete the multiple-choice assessment. There are 10 questions, and you must get 8 correct to pass. You have 20 minutes to complete. ‍
