This course was developed by researchers from New Zealand and Australia, as part of a research project. The course is hosted by the New Zealand Immunisation Advisory Centre (IMAC).

You are invited to complete this course for immunisation service providers about delivering culturally appropriate services to migrant and refugee groups. Healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in supporting vaccine decision-making and creating positive vaccination experiences. The course content covers a range of information including why migrant and refugee populations are under-immunised, how to overcome communication barriers and obtain informed consent, how to develop catch-up immunisation schedules, and much more!

If you are a health professional and a certified vaccinator with a focus on immunising migrant and refugee groups, we invite you to complete this course to evaluate the pilot version of the project. You can participate in this research by completing the consent form at the start of the course after reviewing the information sheet. As this is part of the pilot phase, you will be asked to please complete a short survey about your experience, and you will be invited to provide your contact details if you are willing to participate in a follow-up interview. You are also welcome to complete the course without participating in this research should you wish.

• This course has four modules.  

• You can work through the modules at your own pace. It is anticipated it will take about 4 hours to complete all the modules in the course.

• The course includes practical real-life scenarios and up-to-date resources.

• The course will encourage further development of skills to provide culturally appropriate services.

• To successfully complete the course, you will need to complete the learning and reflection activities throughout the modules.

• Upon completing the post-test survey at the end of Module 4, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from the New Zealand Immunisation Advisory Centre, for 4 hours of professional development.

• Informing service delivery - Vaccine-preventable disease risks & immunisation needs of Australian & New Zealand migrants & refugees

• Provision of culturally appropriate immunisation services - Cultural competence & cross-cultural care

• Assessing immunisation needs & creating catch-up plans to improve vaccine uptake

• Strategies to support immunisation uptake & acceptance
