BCG

The BCG Vaccine SSI from CSL is currently being used for the Neonatal BCG Programme. 
 
BCG Vaccine is offered to infants and children less than five years of age to protect against severe forms of tuberculosis in infants and young children e.g. meningeal TB (infection of the layers over the brain) and miliary TB.
 
sanofi-aventis recalled the BCG vaccine used in New Zealand. This is a precautionary recall as checks of the air quality at the vaccines manufacturing site found a problem and sanofi-aventis cannot be completely confident that the vaccine is sterile. There are no reasons for anyone who has received this vaccine to be concerned as this is recall is being taken as a precaution only. More details ...

Rotarix®

Rotarix® is used for primary vaccination of infants to protect from rotavirus infection. The first dose is given between six and 14 weeks of age.

M-M-R® II

MMR

M-M-R® II is used for primary vaccination and revaccination of children and adults to protect against measles, mumps and rubella.

Varivax®

Varicella

Varivax® is used for primary vaccination of children from 12 months of age and adults to protect against varicella-zoster infection (chickenpox). The vaccine may prevent or reduce the severity of chickenpox disease if it is given within 3-5 days of exposure to someone with the disease.

Varilrix®

Varicella

Varilrix® is used for primary vaccination of infants from nine months of age, children and adults to protect against varicella-zoster infection (chickenpox). The vaccine may prevent or reduce the severity of chickenpox disease if it is given within 3-5 days of exposure to someone with the disease.
Varilrix® stock is available in New Zealand. Additional information is available in the GSK notification issued 5 June 2013 Varilrix back in supply from 6 June 2013.
