Tuberculosis BCG Vaccine Recall

Thursday, 21 June 2012

sanofi-aventis have recalled the BCG vaccine used in New Zealand.

This is a precautionary recall as checks of the air quality at the vaccines manufacturing site found a problem and sanofi-aventis cannot be completely confident that the vaccine is sterile. The recall notice is available on the Medsafe website. The vaccine is also being recalled in other countries, including Australia and Canada.

The BCG Vaccine (Freeze Dried) recall information sheet contains more information for health providers and the public about this recall.

The BCG Vaccine SSI from CSL is the vaccine currently being used for the Neonatal BCG Programme.
